Assignments

A diagram only renders on the storefront when it's assigned to a product. Assignments tell the Parts Diagram block: "on this product page, show this diagram".

Open via Assignments in the sidebar.

How assignments work

  • A single product can have multiple diagrams attached. They render in the order shown — drag to reorder.
  • A single diagram can be attached to multiple products — handy for product families that share the same parts illustration.
  • Assignments persist across theme switches; they're stored on the app, not on the theme.

Create an assignment

  1. Click Add assignment.
  2. Pick the product with the search box (matches by title, SKU, handle).
  3. Pick the diagram to attach.
  4. Optionally set a display name override — what the diagram tab is labeled when multiple diagrams are attached to the same product.
  5. Save.

The storefront reflects the change immediately on next page load.

Manage existing assignments

Each row shows:

  • Product (with thumbnail).
  • Diagram name.
  • Position (when more than one diagram is attached).
  • Last modified.

Row actions:

  • Open product — jump to its Product Diagrams view.
  • Open diagram — jump to the editor.
  • Reorder — drag to change which diagram appears first when a product has multiple.
  • Remove — detach the diagram from this product. The diagram is not deleted; it can still be assigned to other products.

Bulk assignments

For catalogs with many similar products:

  1. Select multiple products with checkboxes (filter by collection, vendor, or product type to narrow the list).
  2. Click Bulk assign and choose a diagram.
  3. Confirm. The same diagram is attached to every selected product.

This is the fastest way to roll a single diagram across an entire collection.

Edge cases

  • Deleted product — assignments to deleted products surface as a warning on the Dashboard. Either re-create the product or remove the assignment.
  • Draft / unpublished product — assignments work, but the diagram only renders on storefront pages your shoppers can actually reach.
  • Variant-level mapping — assignments are at product level. Use the diagram editor to pin individual hotspots to specific variants.
